ABOUT
Thornthwaite is a traditional Lakeland family run farm, set amidst the beautiful scenery of the Woodland Valley, known as one of the “Three Jewels of Lakeland” immortalised by Wordsworth, located in the Southern Fells of the Lake District in Cumbria.

Thornthwaite is ideally situated for those wishing to go walking, cycling or just relaxing, with many walks and cycle routes from your Log Cabin door including the Lakes & Dales Loop and the Bay Cycle Way.

We are located within easy reach of all the main Lake District attractions, however if you need to get away from it all and relax in a friendly atmosphere, our Log Cabins in the Lake District are perfect.
THE COSY GLAMPING LOG CABIN - SLEEPS 2
Fancy glamping in the Lake District? Then the Cosy Cabin is for you. The Cosy Cabin is a beautifully crafted hand built log cabin made using locally sourced timber.
Lounge and Kitchen area
The Cosy Cabin has an open-plan lounge and kitchen/dining area including.

The focal point is the log burning fire with a small integrated oven, perfect for cooking up a simple meal for two, or to snuggle up in front of on chillier days. A basket of logs and kindling are provided, further logs can be purchased at the farm. There is a radiator in the sitting area .

There is a large wrap around veranda complete with chairs and table to take in the panoramic views of Woodland Fell and the surrounding valley.

Bedroom
There is one double bed in the Cosy Cabin which is accesed through the hobbit hole. There are usb sockets next to the bed. Bed linen is provided.
Bathroom
The bathroom is accessed from the outside veranda. There is a large double ended slipper bath perfect for a long relaxing bath after a day out in the Lakes, wash basin and W. C. There is a heated towel rail. The bathroom also has a hanging rail and shelves. All towels are provided.
Garden
The lawned garden is shared with one other log cabin. There are lovely views across the valley and surronding Woodland. Garden furniture and BBQ are provided.

LARCH LOG CABIN - SLEEPS 2
Larch Log Cabin has been hand built using timber from the farm. There are excellent panoramic views of Woodland Fell and the surrounding valley from the veranda.
Lounge and Kitchen
The log cabin has an open-plan lounge and kitchen/dining area. The fitted kitchen includes:

There is under floor heating throughout, and for added warmth there is a log burning fire, logs are provided.

There is a flat screen TV with FreeSat and DVD.
Guests are provided with free WiFi access.

Patio doors lead to a veranda complete with chairs and table to enjoy the gorgeous view.
Bedroom
There is one double bedroom in the log cabin plus a double wardrobe, tall boy chest and bedside tables. Bed linen is provided.
Bathroom
There is a shower, wash basin and W. C. plus heated towel rail. All towels are provided.
Garden
Larch Log Cabin is set within a large lawned garden overlooking the Woodland Valley, which is shared with the Cosy Glamping Cabin. Garden furniture and BBQ are provided.

THINGS TO DO
Steam Trains
We are lucky to have two steam train options in the Lake District. The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is a firm favourite with all ages. The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway is a short journey by Steam train which can be combined with a ride on the boats on Lake Windermere from Lakeside.
On the Water
There are several options for those who want to see the Lake District from the water. The nearest is the Steam Yacht Gondola on Coniston Water. On Windermere there are several excursion options with Windermere Lake Cruises.
Horse Riding
There are several places to go Horse Riding in the area. Cumbrian Heavy Horses offer beach and fell rides depending on ability. For the less experienced rider Bigland Hall offer a range of treks for all levels.
Adventure Activities
For adventure lovers there are numerous activities available including cycling, mountain biking and stand up paddle boarding. For cyclists we are close to the Bay Cycle Way and the Lakes and Dales Loop
Walking
There are countless walks in the Lake District for all ages and abilities. Have a look at the Lake District National Park site for details of walks including those without stiles.
Eating Out
We have several pubs locally including the Blacksmiths Arms and the Old Kings Head . Further afield we recommend Zeffirellis in Ambleside.
