ABOUT

ABOUT

Thornthwaite is a traditional Lakeland family run farm, set amidst the beautiful scenery of the Woodland Valley, known as one of the “Three Jewels of Lakeland” immortalised by Wordsworth, located in the Southern Fells of the Lake District in Cumbria.

Thornthwaite is ideally situated for those wishing to go walking, cycling or just relaxing, with many walks and cycle routes from your Log Cabin door including the Lakes & Dales Loop and the Bay Cycle Way.

We are located within easy reach of all the main Lake District attractions, however if you need to get away from it all and relax in a friendly atmosphere, our Log Cabins in the Lake District are perfect.

Steam Trains

We are lucky to have two steam train options in the Lake District.  The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is a firm favourite with all ages.  The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway is a short journey by Steam train which can be combined with a ride on the boats on Lake Windermere from Lakeside.

On the Water

There are several options for those who want to see the Lake District from the water.  The nearest is the Steam Yacht Gondola on Coniston Water.  On Windermere there are several excursion options with Windermere Lake Cruises.

Horse Riding

There are several places to go Horse Riding in the area.  Cumbrian Heavy Horses  offer beach and fell rides depending on ability.  For the less experienced rider Bigland Hall offer a range of treks for all levels.

Adventure Activities

For adventure lovers there are numerous activities available including cycling, mountain biking and  stand up paddle boarding.  For cyclists we are close to the Bay Cycle Way and the Lakes and Dales Loop

Walking

There are countless walks in the Lake District for all ages and abilities.  Have a look at the Lake District National Park site for details of walks including those without stiles.
